Leo & the Fatima Message: Stop Russia.
Why did three kids in Portugal in 1917 say Russia must be converted?
BY JP LINDSLEY
LVIV—Yesterday was the anniversary of the October 13, 1917, “Miracle of the Sun,” when, as the BBC reports here, “thousands gathered to witness a solar vision” in Fatima, Portugal.
Three shepherd kids, from May 13 of that year, had been saying that the Virgin Mary was appearing to them. That Fatima moment stills hold heavy sway today: Just a few days ago, Pope Leo XIV urged attention on Our Lady of Fatima, blessing the visiting statue from Portugal that contains the bullet that nearly killed John Paul II.
At Fatima in 1917, those three shepherd kids said the Virgin Mary warned about Russia.
Meanwhile, Russia is dead-set on taking and destroying a Ukrainian city named for Mary’s protection. The world keeps living in denial of this shocking reality.

In 1917, thousands gathered in Fatima, Portugal, where three shepherd kids said Mary was appearing. Reportedly, the sun danced in the sky. Some say a UFO, some say a miracle. But the Vatican focused on Mary’s three secrets given to the kids.
In the 2nd secret, revealed decades later by the Vatican, Mary said that if her requests were ignored, “Russia would spread her errors throughout the world.”
It seems we are seeing that reality unfold.
Last Saturday, before the Fatima statue, Leo said “sheathe the sword” in a call for peace.
Coincidentally, in Ukraine, Russia has for more than a year concentrated attacks on Pokrovsk, a name meaning “the protective veil of the Virgin Mary.”
Ukraine’s holding of Pokrovsk, through the miracle of motivation—this is what defenders there report to me—is holding the line for all of Europe. Pokrovsk the place is quite actually a protective veil for all of Ukraine, a choke point keeping the Russians from over-running left-bank/eastern Ukraine.
Meanwhile unable to take Pokrovsk for more than a year—in defiance of ALL expert predictions—Russia is throwing a demonic temper tantrum, bombing the hell out of cities far from the front and torturing & murdering Ukrainian Christians.
So, what’s the ‘Fatima’ solution?
Pope Francis took Fatima seriously. It was his first foreign visit, and he dedicated his papacy to this devotion. But it seemed for Francis that converting Russia meant being super nice. We see that has not worked.
In Ukraine we see that conversion of demons requires resistance: “You shall not pass.” Peace through strength and all that.
Famed American 20th century Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, explaining Fatima, said the warning was targeting the errors of Russia—atheistic, worship of the state, contempt for the person.
The remedy, he said: truth-telling, resistance to the “Red Square of the Kremlin,” and prayer, especially the rosary.
John Paul II, the Polish pope who stood up to Moscow, was shot on Fatima’s feast in 1981—and survived. JP II credited Our Lady of Fatima with his survival. He later placed the bullet from that attack in the same Fatima statue that Pope Leo blessed in Rome yesterday.
Many Western leaders want to forget just how awful Russia is because they are scared of just how insanely evil it is. They don’t know what to do. Recall the “ashen faces” of the White House staff in Alaska.
Does the Fatima warning show how to fight this evil?
In the 1871, Russian writer Dostoevsky published his masterpiece about Russian politics, Demons. A sick spirit has long governed the Russians, and like the devil, they try to disguise themselves. Leo’s clear support for Ukraine suggests he sees reality.
So, if as Mary said “Russia must be converted” or terrible wars would result, what must be done?
Perhaps this is the answer Ukraine must win. Ukraine is the opposite of Russia: democratic, fiercely free, actively Christian.
Will Ukraine winning be the conversion of Russia?
